added products or agro-products that we deal in,
our commitment to provide the best Quality product
for our consumers remains primary.

Traceability of Product Offerings
In today’s competitive environment
and increasing consumer awareness, traceability of agro-products
has become an important parameter for marketing. Over the
last decade, the company has initiated steps to provide traceability
for its products. The company ensures this through strict
quality parameters from paddy procurement to production to
its products reaching the end consumers.
Procurement
Till date, the company could provide traceability
for its products from procurement in mandis (granaries, where
the harvest is stocked for sale) to the end product.
In May 2003, the company took the first step
towards backward integration. Satnam Overseas entered into
a contract farming agreement with Punjab Agro Industries Corporation
and Escorts Limited to procure 40,000 tonnes of traditional
basmati paddy direct from the farmers.
This step, first of its kind in India, will
enable the company to be present in the entire value chain
of basmati production cycle, will ensure consistency in quality
and will provide direct access to highest quality basmati
at pre-determined prices. The company intends to leverage
this for its “Kohinoor” brand and thereby reinforce
traceability of its basmati products.
The company intends to enter into more such
contract farming agreements, while continuing to procure basmati
paddy from existing sources. |
